Bloomington Extreme News Release

Bloomington Extreme kickoff return specialist Shatone Powers has been selected by the United Indoor Football League as its Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 33-22 loss at Omaha.

Powers returned six kickoffs for 149 yards and a 24.8 average. He took the opening kickoff of the second half for a season-best 54 yards and a touchdown. It was two yards shy of the team record of 56 yards, set by James Cooper last season.

It marked the second time this season Powers has returned a kickoff for a touchdown. The 6-foot, 195-pound Powers has returned 32 kickoffs this season in nine games for 627 yards and a 19.6 per return average, which ranks third in the league.

Powers, who also plays wide receiver and has eight receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown, is the fifth Extreme player to earn Player of the Week honors by the UIF. Others were Dusty Burk, James Walton, Terrill Mayberry and Peter Christofilakos.

Other UIF players receiving Player of the Week honors for their performances Saturday were RiverCity running back Muhammad Abdulquaadir for offense and Evansville linebacker John Winchester on defense.

The Extreme, which has a 6-7 record, returns to action Saturday in its final regular-season home game against Billings at 8:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Bloomington has a one-game lead over Evansville in the battle for the fourth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. The Extreme concludes the regular season July 14 in a 7:05 p.m. contest at Evansville. Tickets, priced as low as $10, for Saturday's game are on sale at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office, 101 S. Madison, Bloomington; by calling 309-434-2679 or 866-891-9992 or by email at www.bloomingtonextreme.com or www.uscellularcoliseum.com.
