Bloomington Extreme News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington Extreme wide receiver Glenn Johnson has been invited to a free agent tryout with the Miami Dolphins and will miss the first two weeks of the United Indoor Football season.

Johnson, who is the Extreme's top returning receiver from a year ago, will have his tryout with the Dolphins on April 4. He will miss the Extreme season-opener Friday at 7:35 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against Rock River because he doesn't want to risk injury prior to the tryout. He also will miss the Extreme's April 7 game at Ohio Valley.

"While we hate to be without Glenn we are happy that he is getting a look by the Dolphins," said Extreme coach Ted Schmitz. "We're all about helping our players move up through the ranks."

Johnson caught 42 passes for 547 yards and 11 touchdowns last year despite missing half the season with injuries. He averaged 13 yards per reception with his longest gain being 33 yards. He ranked third on the team in scoring with 70 points and returned 18 kickoffs for a 19.1-yard average.

Schmitz also announced that quarterback Dusty Burk will be out three to four weeks with a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament in high left knee. Burk suffered the injury during the team's scrimmage Thursday.

"It won't require surgery," said Schmitz, who has replaced Burk on the 30-man active roster with Kenton Carr, who saw action in four games for the Extreme last season. "He just needs to stay off it and rest it.

"We'll go with (Tom) Kudyba, (Steve) LaFalce and Carr in practice this week and see who comes out on top. Kudyba is the front-runner at this point. He and LaFalce are similar-type quarterbacks in style and similar to Dusty. Kenton is more of a pocket quarterback."

Carr completed 48 of 114 passes for 552 yards and 10 touchdowns last season for the Extreme when he filled in for Burk. He had a 42.1 percentage completion rate and averaged 138 yards per game. He holds the team record for completion yardage in a game with 217.
