Bloomington Extreme News Release
The Bloomington Extreme will be seeking its first victory of the season when it travels to Omaha on Saturday for a United Indoor Football League contest against the Omaha Beef at Civic Auditorium in downtown Omaha.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with the live broadcast on WJBC (1230 AM). The two-time all-UIF broadcast team of Greg Halbleib and Craig Fata will handle the broadcast duties.
Both teams will be looking to avenge opening-season losses in this non-divisional matchup. The Extreme fell to three-time defending UIF champion Sioux Falls at U.S. Cellular Coliseum, 50-37, in its opener. Omaha suffered a 70-37 defeat at Billings.
Bloomington owns a 2-1 record in games in Omaha and a 2-2 overall record against the Beef in the all-time series. The Extreme has an 8-8 record on the road in its first two seasons of existence.
Omaha is led by quarterback James McNear, who completed 17 of 25 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown in last week's loss at Billings. McNear also rushed for 45 yards and one touchdown.
His favorite receiving target was Kenny Horton, who grabbed six passes for 80 yards and one touchdown. The Beef finished the game with 59 yards rushing and 205 yards passing.
Kyle Whitehurst was the team leader on defense with 6.5 points on five solo tackles and three assists. The Beef defense did not force a Billings turnover and did not have a quarterback sack.
The story was much the same for the Extreme defense as it had a difficult time stopping the Sioux Falls' offense. Defensive lineman Quince Holman had two tackles for loss, but the defense couldn't come up with a quarterback sack of turnover.
Sioux Falls, playing without its No. 1 quarterback Terreance Bryant, still managed 167 yards in offense on 111 yards rushing and 56 yards passing. The Storm also had two touchdowns by its special team units on a kickoff return and missed field goal return.
Defensive back Dion Brown led the Extreme defense charge with eight points on six solo tackles and four assists. Holman and Terrance Cheatham had six points on four solo tackles and four assists.
The Extreme offense generated 223 yards in offense with 215 coming through the air and only eight on the ground. Quarterback Dusty Burk completed 15 of 29 passes for 188 yards.
Burk threw four touchdown passes to James Walton, who finished with 105 yards on those four catches. Derin Graham, playing in his first game for the Extreme, caught eight passes for 91 yards and one touchdown.
The Extreme returns to U.S. Cellular Coliseum for back-to-back home games on March 22 against league newcomer Wichita and Colorado on March 28. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m. with tickets available at the Coliseum box office or online at www.bloomingtonextreme.com.
