
Extreme ready to eat some Beef in Omaha

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington Extreme, which snapped an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season with a 33-32 United Indoor Football League victory last week, looks for its second straight triumph Saturday night at 7 o'clock at Omaha.
The Extreme, playing its first game against a Western Conference opponent, has a 1-3 overall record. Omaha has lost its last two games after starting the season with three victories. The teams split a pair of decisions last season with each winning on the other's turf.
Omaha leads the UIF in total defense, allowing 174.2 yards per game, and rush defense, allowing 37.4 yards. The Beef also ranks third in scoring defense by giving up 33.2 points per game.
Individually, quarterback James McNear is eighth in the league in rushing (28.6 yards per game) and ninth in total offense with a 111.0 average. He has completed 50 of 106 passes for 412 yards and nine touchdowns. He has thrown only one interception.
The Beef's leading receivers are Mike Nizzi (22 catches, 162 yards, five TDs), Lawrence Pullen (13, 155, 3) and R.J. Rollins (13, 106, 1). Pullen ranks third in the league in all-purpose yardage with 119.0 per game.
Omaha kicker Ted Retzlaff is second in the UIF with nine field goals on 25 attempts. He has been successful on 16 of 19 conversion kicks.
The Beef's top defensive players are James Johnson and Breatn Hafford. Johnson has 21 solo tackles and 12 assists, while Hafford has 14 solos and 19 assists. Hafford also has four quarterback sacks and two pass interceptions.
The Extreme have three of the league's top 10 tacklers in Lamar Baker, Dorian Pitts and Dion Brown. Baker ranks third with 22 solos and 19 assists, while Pitts has nine solos and 20 assists and Brown has 10 solos and 14 assists.
Terrill Mayberry ranks second in the UIF in pass defense with eight break-ups, while Baker is fourth with six. Eric Johnson has three quarterback sacks.
The Extreme also announced the signing of rookie running back George Wilson, a former player at Eastern Illinois.
Bloomington's next home game is May 19 against Ohio Valley at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Tickets for all Extreme games are on sale at the Coliseum box office, 101 S. Madison Street, Bloomington.
