EVANSVILLE, IN: This Saturday night the Evansville BlueCats (1-4) will travel to Wheeling, West Virginia, to take on the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (1-3) at WesBanco Arena. This game sets up a rematch of Evansville's 47-24 Week 2 victory over the Hounds, and is the second of three games scheduled between the teams this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00pm Evansville time. The game can be heard live on News-Talk 1280 WGBF-AM and on the web at www.103gbfrocks.com with the voice of the BlueCats, Jimmie Ford, on play-by-play. The pregame show begins at 5:40pm.
Last Saturday night the BlueCats lost a tightly contested 28-26 contest to the Sioux City Bandits. The BlueCats held a 10-point lead in the 4th quarter before the Bandits rallied late for the come-from-behind victory.
Running back/kick returner Odest Shannon earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the league for his performance against Sioux City and defensive back Choo Choo Davis earned Defensive Player of the Week "Honorable Mention".
Ohio Valley was idle last weekend.
The BlueCats currently lead the league in rushing offense with an average of 92.6 yards per game. The BlueCats also lead the league with 5 kick return touchdowns so far this season, behind two return touchdowns apiece between Richard Johnson and Odest Shannon. BlueCats defensive back Choo Choo Davis is tied for the league lead with 4 interceptions.
Back in Week Two, the BlueCats were led by defensive lineman LaDrelle Bryant and Johnny Brown, who each had 2 sacks against the Greyhounds. Bryant was also honored as UIF Defensive Player of the Week for his performance, which also included 7.5 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery.
