Bloomington Extreme News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington Extreme indoor football team opens its second season in franchise history with a home date against Rock River (Rockford) on Friday, March 30, 2007 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Extreme plays three of its first four games at home. The Extreme will play 13 of its 15 games on Saturday. The other two games (March 30 and May 25) will be played on Friday. All home games start at 7:05 p.m. with the exception of the March 30 date, which is still to be determined.

"It's a very challenging schedule because of the parity in the league," said second-year head coach Ted Schmitz. "I feel we can beat anyone in the league, but by the same token anyone can beat us on any given week."

The Extreme will compete in the Eastern Conference along with St. Louis, Rock River, Evansville, Lexington (Ky.) and Ohio Valley (Wheeling, W. Va.). Bloomington plays Rock River three times (twice at home); Ohio Valley (home and away); St. Louis (home and away); Lexington (home and away); Omaha (home and away); Evansville (home and away).

Bloomington faces Billings (Mont.) and Fort Collins (Colo.) of the Western Conference at home. Other teams in the Western Conference include Sioux Falls (S.D.), Sioux City (Iowa) and Omaha. Billings and Fort Collins are new league members, replacing Fort Wayne (Ind.) and Peoria.

The Extreme has two bye weeks, the first week of the season (March 23) and the eighth week (May 11).

"I don't mind having the first week as a bye week," said Schmitz. "It gives us an extra week to prepare and we won't have to hurry as much in training camp.

"Some people might think it puts us at a disadvantage because we won't have a game under our belt and Rock River will. I look at it as an advantage because we will have the opportunity to see Rock River play and they won't have the same advantage."
