(Bloomington, IL) - The Bloomington Extreme ran away with the victory against the Green Bay Blizzard Saturday night in front of a crowd of 4,523 fans with the final score of 42-26, With the victory, the Extreme jump to 2-0 on the season. The Extreme jumped out to a 13-0 lead early, scoring on a 10 yard run by Andre Raymond, and an electrifying return on a 58-yard Joshua Shene missed field goal by Tim Blackwell. Peter Christofilakos added the extra point on the first touchdown, but the second attempt was partially blocked and went off the right goal post. The blizzard came back on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Willie Copeland to Lonnie Sanders to make the score 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter got started with a mishap when Blackwell fumbled the kickoff and the Blizzard recovered. Copeland found Sanders for their second scoring connection of the night, bringing Green Bay to a 14-13 lead. The Extreme didn't let the lead go against their favor for long, as Andre Raymond answered the call of his number and scampered in for a 4-yard touchdown run, giving the Extreme lead once again, 20-14. The exhilarating half ended on a 30-yard field goal by Joshua Shene, to bring the score to 20-17.
The Extreme kicked off to start what was going to end up being a dominating second half. The Blizzard got things started back up when Copeland found Agim Shabaj for a 34-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 24-20 in favor of the Blizzard. A spark was lit under the defense when a pass completed from Copeland to Scott Burnoski was stripped by WInston Taylor and scooped up on the 18 yard line and taken to the house by Ke'Andre Sams for the touchdown. This brought the Extreme score to 27-24. Christofilakos extended the lead when he hit a 20-yard field goal for a 30-24 lead.
The Extreme continued to pile on the Blizzard in the fourth quarter as it opened up with a 21-yard Rocky HInds touchdown completion to Johnny Gray, bringing the score to 37-24. Hinds made sure that the Extreme were going to bury the Blizzard and found Blackwell on a swing pass. Blackwell made a knee buckling move and took it 32 yards for the score to extend the lead to 42-24. WIth the opportunity to give the fans a free McDonald's Big Mac if the Extreme scored 44 points, they went for two. Haven Mosley's pass was intercepted and taken back for two points by the Blizzard, bringing the score to 42-26, which ultimately was the final.
