Bloomington Extreme News Release
The Bloomington Extreme can clinch at least a share of the Eastern Division title of the United Indoor Football League with a victory over RiverCity in a 7:05 p.m. contest Saturday at Family Arena in St. Charles. Mo.
It would be the first division title in the franchise's short three-year history and earn the Extreme its second straight post-season playoff berth.
The Extreme enters the RiverCity game with a 6-5 record, including a 6-0 mark against Eastern Division opponents. A victory over the division rival Rage and a loss by Sioux City in its home game Saturday against three-time defending UIF champion Sioux Falls would give the Extreme the outright title.
Sioux City and RiverCity have 4-7 records, but the Extreme holds two victories over both teams to assure it of winning any tie-breakers.
By winning the Eastern Conference title, the Extreme would receive a bye during the first week of the playoffs and serve as host for the division championship game Monday, June 30 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum with the winner advancing to the UIF United Bowl championship contest.
The second and third-place finishing teams in the division - most likely Sioux City and RiverCity - would meet in the first round with the winner facing the Extreme.
Bloomington and RiverCity have met twice this season with the Extreme earning a 41-38 triumph at St. Charles in April and a 51-42 win at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in May.
Former Extreme linebacker Taylor back on roster
Former Bloomington Extreme linebacker Winston Taylor rejoined the team Tuesday after signing a contract, according to head coach Kenton Carr.
Taylor was the team's Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 and earned second-team all-league honors by leading the team in tackles with 65 solos and 82 assists in 14 games. He also led the team in tackles for loss (16.5)
The former University of Illinois player and Springfield native played five games with the Extreme last season, recording 15 solo tackles and 23 assists. He will wear No. 41.
