Extreme Clobber Maniacs in Regular Season Finale, 50-12

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington Extreme (10 -4) recorded five interceptions while holding the Maryland Maniacs (10-3) to 11 first downs and 173 total yards of offense in their 50-12 victory Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill.

The Bloomington Extreme scored first after Peter Christofilakos knocked in a 49-yard field goal to give the Extreme a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter. Bloomington scored again after James Temple picked off Maniacs' quarterback Bryson Spinner, which resulted in a 20-yard touchdown by Glenn Johnson from Ronnie Simpson to extend the lead, 10-0. The Maniacs responded when kicker Justin Willis nailed an 18-yard field goal, which cut their deficit to 10-3. Later in the second quarter, Extreme wide receiver Carl Sims returned a kickoff 57 yards for a touchdown and pushed the lead to 20-6 in favor of Bloomington. Late in the first half, Bloomington's Quince Holman blocked a Maryland field goal to go along with a B.J. Brown interception, giving the Extreme a 27 -6 lead entering halftime.

Midway through the third quarter, Simpson hooked up with Johnson for the second time on the night and resulted in a 4-yard touchdown reception, which widened the lead, 34-6. Later in the third, Simpson found Sims on a crossing route in the end zone, giving the Extreme a 40-6 lead. Late in the fourth quarter, Simpson bought time in the pocket before finding SoSo Brooks in the back of the end zone for his fourth touchdown pass of the evening and giving the Extreme a 50-12 win.

The victory marks the fifth-straight win for Bloomington and closes out the regular season. The Extreme will have three-consecutive bye weeks before the upcoming IFL playoffs next month beginning July 18.The Extreme will host a home playoff game either July 18 or July 25 depending upon the final conference standing results.
