North Carolina FC News Release

OTTAWA, ON (July 26, 2015) - The Carolina RailHawks (2W-1D-2L, 7pts.) fell to the Ottawa Fury FC (4W-1D-0L, 13pts.) in a challenging match by a score of 2-1 at TD Place in Ottawa, Canada.

The RailHawks came out looking for a win in order to claim the top spot in the league. While they made many attacks throughout the first half, the Fury FC retained a majority of the ball possession. The RailHawks defense remained strong, with multiple plays from Wes Knight denying Ottawa any shots off.

In the 19th minute, a cross from Ottawa's Paulo Junior found Hassan, who headed the ball into the net. For the remainder of the half, Akira Fitzgerald blocked shots from Ottawa's Wiedeman and Eustaquio and the RailHawks' offense continued their pursuit with shots from Anderson, Novo, and Tobin (38'). Both teams endured the rest of the half, fighting to maintain possession.

In the second half, Wells Thompson was shown a second yellow and was ejected from the game. Despite the disadvantage, Fitzgerald and the RailHawks defensive line tirelessly made saves from the Fury's attacks from players such as Hassan, Paulo Junior, Alves, and Ryan.

As the RailHawks continued to fight with a man down, a ball from Bracalello to Nacho Novo allowed Novo to make a breakaway from the Fury's defense. Novo shot the ball, making the first goal for the RailHawks and evening the score late in the game. This was Novo's third goal in the past two matches.

At the 90', the fourth official indicated a minimum of six minutes of added time. To finish the game, Ottawa's Haworth was able to finish off of a cross from Richter, giving the first-placed team a one-goal advantage in the 96th minute.

The RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, August 1st at 7:30 pm to host Freddy Adu and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Purchase your tickets here.
