Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, used a season-high eight extra base hits to drub the Winston-Salem Warthogs 10-4 Friday night at Ernie Shore Field. Koby Clemens drove a season-best four runs in for Salem (14-19) against Winston-Salem (13-17).

Salem never trailed in the ballgame thanks to a three-run first inning. With two on and Michael Dubee on the mound, Mark Ori seared an 0-1 pitch down the left-field line for a two-run double. Three batters later, Orlando Rosales singled Ori home for a three-zip lead. It was one of three hits for the right fielder.

Salem picked another run up in the third on the first of Clemens three hits, an RBI single. In the sixth, the Avs bumped the lead to seven. With two on, Koby Clemens scorched a two-run double to put the Avs up six. Two batters later, Cesar Quintero's ground ball double play brought Clemens across.

Salem nabbed another in the seventh when Clemens bashed an 0-1 pitch from Ricky Brooks over the left-field fence for his second home run in 2008. It was the first Salem homer since Jordan Parraz's game-winner in Myrtle Beach on April 25th.

Salem's final run came across on a Cesar Quintero RBI double in the ninth, the seventh two-base hit of the game for the Avs and eighth extra-base hit. Each is a season high total.

With the victory, Salem cracked a five-game losing streak. Right-hander Corey Bass gained the win-his first at the Advanced-A level--with six innings and two batters on the mound.

The Avs and Warthogs play again Saturday at 6 PM as lefty David Qualben goes for Salem against Winston-Salem's Aaron Poreda.
