Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - The Express (40-53) made a historic night for the franchise even more special with a 5-2 win over Oklahoma City (46-46) Saturday night.
Round Rock left-hander Polin Trinidad, making just his third start for the team, and his first at Dell Diamond, shut down the RedHawks. Trinidad allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts over seven innings of work. He also tossed a stout 125 pitches in the process, 81 of which were strikes. The southpaw was called up from Double-A Corpus Christi at the beginning of July.
The Express got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a Tommy Manzella double to left-center field that brought home Brian Bogusevic to make it 1-0.
Oklahoma City drew even in the top of the second inning when Chris Davis connected on a 2-2 pitch and sent it over the visiting bullpen in right field.
Round Rock forged some separation in the fourth inning, and it started with a Jason Smith single with one out. Smith stole second, and then Mark Saccomanno reached on a fielding error by first baseman Justin Smoak. Smith moved up on the play. Chris Johnson followed with a walk to load the bases, and Edwin Maysonet lashed a sacrifice fly ball deep to center field to make it 2-1. Reggie Abercrombie padded the lead with a single to center field that scored Saccomanno from second.
Oklahoma City pulled within a run in the sixth inning when Davis doubled to bring home Joaquin Arias.
Round Rock added another run in the seventh inning when a single by Smith scored Kata to make it 4-2. The Express kept things going in the eighth inning when Johnson led off the frame with a walk. Maysonet moved him over with a ground out, and with two outs, Kata walked to put runners at first and second. Brian Bogusevic then singled to right field, scoring Johnson to make it 5-2.
Kata, Smith and Bogusevic led the Express with two hits each at the plate.
The highlight of the night, however, was the rolling evening tribute to the 1959 Austin Senators. Members of the team and organization threw out the first pitch, paraded around in the infield in vintage Mustangs before the game and then received their Texas League championship rings before the start of the seventh inning. During the tribute, 12,060 Express fans gave the team a stirring standing ovation.
Oklahoma City and Round Rock meet up for a series finale Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. with right-hander Bud Norris taking the mound for the Express against the RedHawks and right-hander Luis Mendoza.
