Express Weekly: Express Earn Back-To-Back Wins at Home

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, faced divisional opponents four times last week, going 2-1-1-0 and earning five of eight possible points. The Express are now 19-17-5-2, and their 45 points puts them in second place in the North Division, seven points behind first place Kalamazoo. Chicago heads out on the road this week and next week, playing their next six games away from home ice.

Cincinnati 3, EXPRRESS 2, OT

Chicago got off to a good start as LW Chad Painchaud and F Pierre-Luc Faubert both scored first period goals and the Express led 2-0 after the opening period. After neither team scored in the second period, the Cyclones struck just 30 seconds into the third, and tied the game 2-2 with a tally with 1:31 left on the clock. Cincinnati completed their comeback in overtime, as F Michael Pelech beat G Peter Mannino on a 2-on-1 rush, winning the game 3-2.

Friday, January 27

TOLEDO 3, Express 2

A goal in the first and a second midway through the second period found Chicago in a 2-0 hole halfway through the game. However, F Mike Embach returned from the IR and scored at 16:12 of the second period, cutting the Walleye lead to 2-1. 1:47 later, LW Chad Painchaud knocked home a rebound, locking the score at 2-2 heading into the third. A late penalty to Chicago gave Toledo a power play, and with 4:02 remaining in the game the Walleye capitalized on the

Saturday, January 28

EXPRESS 3, Cincinnati 0

G Peter Mannino sparkled as Chicago earned a 3-0 shutout victory over Cincinnati. RW Chaz Johnson scored the game's first goal on the power play in the second period, and the lead stretched to 2-0 on RW Tyler Donati's power play goal in the third. Donati iced the game with his second goal, this time on an empty net, as Chicago won 3-0. Mannino ended the night with 24 saves.

Sunday, January 29

EXPRESS 3, Cincinnati 2, SO

Chicago found themselves trailing 2-0 after the Cyclones scored twice in the first period. However, D Darcy Campbell scored in the second frame to put the Express on the board, and RW Chaz Johnson tied the game with a power play goal with 7:18 left in the game. G Peter Mannino stopped all four shootout attempts he faced, while F Pierre-Luc Faubert and LW Maxime Gratchev each scored in the shootout for Chicago, boosting the Express to the 3-2 victory.

Goaltender Peter Mannino became the second Express goaltender to earn a shutout, as he stopped 24 shots in the 3-0 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday night.Chicago won back-to-back games for the first time since December 7 and December 9, both against Kalamazoo.Chicago has faced Cincinnati in a shootout three times this season, with all three victories going to the Express.The Express are 5-0-1 at home on Saturday nights.RW Tyler Donati's three point game on Saturday was his sixth three point game of the season, and his 12th multiple point game of the year.LW Chad Painchaud played in his 300th ECHL game on Wednesday night. He scored one of Chicago's goals in the game.
