Express vs. Slaughter Pre-Game

May 18, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Reading Express News Release

READING, PA: The Reading Express (2-8) is set to travel to Chicago to take on the Slaughter (4-6) tonight in their first match-up of the season. Both teams previously faced-off against the Cedar Rapids Titans in which the Express lost last week and the Chicago Slaughter won two weeks ago.

The Reading Express was defeated by the Titans after picking up their first two wins of the season the previous two weeks. During the past two weeks, the Express has had two players named the defensive players of the week by the IFL. In the game that they won on May 5 against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks Marcus Sargeant was awarded the accolades, while this past week Mike Dell was given the award after making five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, also scoring a touchdown on offense against the Titans.

On the other hand, the Slaughter is looking to continue a three-game winning streak to keep their playoff hopes alive. In their last game against the Titans, the Slaughter's Eyad Salem and Daniel DuFrene both caught touchdown receptions from Perry Patterson giving them the advantage.

Currently, the offensive season statistics stand in favor of the Slaughter who, on average, both out-gain and out-score the Express. The Slaughter is sitting at an average of 44.2 points per game and 265.9 all-purpose yards per game, while the Express is 39.3 and 217.4, respectively. Defensively, however, the Express has twice as many sacks on the season and has one more forced fumble and 2 more defensive touchdowns recorded than the Slaughter.

This match up will really depend on if the Express will be able to stop the Slaughter passing game, make more critical offensive plays, and continue to build upon their improving defense in order to come out on top with week. The Slaughter will have to keep up their passing conversions and pump-up their running game in order to overcome the Express defense.
