E-Train RF Ryan Rua Blasts Two-Run Homer
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Round Rock Express (63-70) RF Ryan Rua launched a two-run homer off the batter's eye in center field that gave the E-Train a narrow 2-1 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (77-55) on Wednesday night at Dell Diamond.
Express LHP Dario Alvarez (2-0, 2.33) picked up the win after three solid innings out of the bullpen. The lefty surrendered just one run on three hits while striking out seven. Sky Sox LHP Tyler Webb (1-2, 7.04) suffered the blown save loss after giving up both Round Rock runs on two hits in 0.2 innings of relief.
For the second night in a row, neither starting pitcher figured into the decision. RHP Adrian Sampson pitched five strong innings in his Express debut. The righty blanked the Sky Sox on seven hits while striking out four. Colorado Springs RHP Junior Guerra tossed 4.1 shutout innings, surrendering only two hits and two walks while striking out four.
The visitors broke through a scoreless draw in the sixth inning as 2B Nate Orf lined a two-out homer over the wall in right field to give the Sky Sox an early 1-0 edge.
Round Rock answered an inning later as CF Jared Hoying roped a two-out double to center field. Rua then smoked a two-run homer that crashed into the batter's eye in center field, propelling the E-Train to a 2-1 lead.
Express RHP Tyler Wagner picked up his third save of the year after working around a leadoff single to record a scoreless ninth inning of relief to preserve the 2-1 win.
The two teams close out their abbreviated three-game series on Thursday night. Round Rock RHP David Ledbetter (3-3, 4.29) is set to take the mound against RHP Taylor Jungmann (8-2, 2.77). First pitch at Dell Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
