Round Rock Express News Release

(Omaha, NE) - Round Rock played well in Des Moines, winning three straight games, but moving into Omaha, the second leg of the Express' current road trip, did not turn out well on Thursday night.

Omaha starter Brian Bass, who hadn't won in three previous starts, suddenly became un-hittable, and Round Rock's offense found itself stymied on only three hits through Bass' six innings of work.

On the other side of the ledger, Omaha's offense lit up the boards the entire night. They got three runs in the first off starter and loser Jason Hirsh, put up two more in the fourth inning off Hirsh, and then got five more off reliever Justin Huisman in the fifth inning.

Round Rock's only run came on a lead-off triple from SS Jesse Garcia in the eighth inning. He scored on 3B Joe McEwing's sacrifice fly to make it a final score of 10-1.

The Express got outstanding relief from right-handers David Lee and Brandon Puffer. The former Rockies hurler Lee notched two shutout innings, while Puffer pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Right-hander Chris Sampson goes for the Express in game two of the series. It starts at 7:05 p.m. on Friday evening in Omaha. The Express return to the Dell Diamond on Monday, May 1 to take on the Oklahoma RedHawks at 7:05 p.m.
