Chicago Express News Release
Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, surrendered five special teams goals and fell 7-2 at Kalamazoo Sunday afternoon.
Kalamazoo drew first blood in the game, when F Dean Strong extended his point streak to five games with a goal at 11:30 of the opening frame. A shot from D Joe Charlebois deflected in front of G Rob Nolan and right to Strong who deposited a shot into the net. Kalamazoo extended the lead to 2-0 on a similar play just under three minutes later. A shot from F Brandon Svendsen deflected to F Patrick Asselin. F Trent Daavettila assisted on the play and extended his point streak to five games.
Chicago started the second period exactly the way wanted, as F Kyle Ostrow scored his third goal of the season just 51 seconds into the middle frame. F Mike Embach made a perfect pass to LW Blair Riley, and Ostrow found the rebound to put the Express on the board. Kalamazoo struck right back, as F Brandon Svendsen scored on a shorthanded breakaway, and C Justin Taylor blasted a wrist shot on the power play to grant the Wings a 4-1 lead through two periods.
F Tyler Johnson brought the Express to back within two goals when fired a shot from the left post and beat G Ryan Zapolski. It was as close as the Express would come, as Kalamazoo scored two more power play goals from Svendsen and D Mike Matczak, and F Nick Sirota finished the scoring with an even-strength marker for the final 7-2 score.
Three stars: 1. B. Svendsen (KAL), 2. D. Strong (KAL), 3. K. Karlander (KAL)
Power plays: CHI: 0/4, KAL: 4/9
Notes:

Before this game the Express had not surrendered more than three goals in any of their previous seven games.
The Express are back at home on Friday, November 11, at 7:30 pm when the Cincinnati Cyclones come back to the Sears Centre.
