Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - A three-run second was too much for the Round Rock Express (69-63) to overcome as the Oklahoma City RedHawks (76-56) took the first of five games at Dell Diamond Wednesday night by a final score of 4-2.
Round Rock was never able to climb out of an early deficit despite out-hitting Oklahoma City 9-8 as the RedHawks snapped the Express' three-game winning streak.
After Express starter Jake Brigham retired the first five batters in order to start the game, a pair of walks came back to haunt the right-hander in the second. Following the free passes, catcher Rene Garcia singled to center which brought home shortstop Jimmy Paredes just ahead of the relay throw for the game's first run. Left fielder Che-Hsuan Lin followed with another knock that brought two more runs across the plate as the RedHawks built a 3-0 lead in the early going.
The Express offense came to life in the third when catcher Zach Zaneski belted his first home run in an E-Train uniform on a 3-2 offering to begin the frame, cutting the lead to two.
Paredes padded Oklahoma City's lead in the sixth with a solo blast just out of the reach of a leaping Engel Beltre in left-center field, making the score 4-1.
A two-out rally in the bottom half of the sixth pulled Round Rock back within two when designated hitter Chris McGuiness singled in left fielder Joey Butler to slice the RedHawk lead to 4-2.
The Express put the tying run on base in the eighth when Butler's second double of the night was followed by a walk to third baseman Alex Buchholz, but the E-Train was unable to cash in as Oklahoma City's bullpen shut the door.
Following a quiet ninth, the Express dropped for the sixth time on the season to the RedHawks. Oklahoma City starter Ross Seaton (3-6) earned the win, while Brigham (5-4) was tagged with the loss.
The Express and RedHawks continue the final homestand of the regular season at Dell Diamond Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Scott Richmond (4-6, 5.78 ERA) will get the ball for Round Rock, while Oklahoma City will send right-hander Paul Clemens (3-1, 2.88 ERA) to the hill. It will also be the Original Thirsty Thursday, presented by Firetrol Protection Systems featuring discounted draft beer and $1.00 sodas throughout the night.
