Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City, IA: Sioux City Explorers manager Steve Shirley announced today that INF Todd West has signed a contract with the Explorers for the 2005 Northern League season. By signing West, the X's fill a hole at shortstop and brings the total number of players under contract to fifteen.

"I knew it was going to be tough to find a quality shortstop, but Todd West has the skills to be one of the top defensive players in the Northern League," comments manager Steve Shirley. "Offensively he fits what we are looking for in the two hole. He makes contact and has decent speed."

West broke into professional baseball in 2000 after finishing his college career at the University of Texas. The Milwaukee Brewers selected Todd in the 14th round of the major league draft and he played with the Brewers until the end of the 2003 season. With the Brewers he had great defensive numbers with his best season coming in 2001. In that season, West played 132 games at shortstop and committed only 10 errors.

Following his four years in the Brewers organization, Todd played in the Cleveland Indians and Arizona Diamondbacks organizations in 2004. West is a native of El Paso, TX and currently lives in Houston.
