Sioux City Explorers News Release
Gary, IN-----For the third straight night Gary SouthShore handed the Explorers a one-run loss, Wednesday beating the X's 2-1. It was the sixth straight loss for the Explorers.
Sioux City took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Eddie Young walked to lead off the inning and took third on a single by Eliezer Mesa. Young then scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Leugim Barroso. That run was the first run the Explorers had scored in 14 innings after being shutout 1-0 on Tuesday.
Defense kept the Explorers in the game early as the RailCats had three runners thrown out at home plate in the first two innings.
The RailCats scored two runs in the seventh inning on a bases loaded single by Mike Massaro. Gary had loaded the bases off losing hurler Jason Jarvis on a walk, error and base hit. Jimmer Kennedy came in relief and gave up the single to Massaro which proved to be the winning margin.
Former Explorer Alain Quijano pitched eight inning to pick up his league leading ninth victory of the season and his third win this year over his former teammates.
The Explorers will close out the four-game series at Gary Thursday at US Steel Yard with game time 7:15pm.
