EASTER SEALS WALK WITH ME
LOVES PARK, IL - Easter Seals of Rockford will be holding their annual Walk With Me Rockford 5K Fun Run and 2 Mile Family Walk at Aviators Stadium on Saturday, September 27, 2014.
Easter Seals Walk With Me is a national fundraising event to raise awareness and support for families living with disabilities. Individual walkers and teams join hundreds of other passionate people in their communities for a day full of entertainment, fun, and, of course, the signature walk.
Since 2003, over 150,000 people have participated in 500 Walk With Me events nationwide while generating over $30 million to support families at Easter Seals.
Registration for the event will begin at 7:30 a.m. for the 2 Mile Family Fun Walk. Runners wishing to participate in the 5K Fun Run will need to be pre-registered. There will be a short program at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K Fun Run will begin following the short program at 9:00 a.m.

NIK'S HOME RUN 7K RACE & 1.5 MILE FUN WALK
LOVES PARK, IL - Aviators Stadium will be hosting the 3rd Annual Nik's Home Run 7K Race & 1.5 Mile Fun Walk on Saturday, October 11 at 9:00 a.m. to help benefit the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation.
The Nikolas Ritschel Foundation is a nonprofit organization which provides enrichment opportunities for young adult sarcoma patients who are between the ages of 18 and 24. The foundation is inspired by Nikolas Ritschel's journey with synovial sarcoma and raises money to create opportunities to enrich the lives, stimulate encouragement, and strengthen the faith of sarcoma patients and their loves ones.
Nik's Home Run 7K Race & 1.5 Mile Fun Walk will begin at Aviators Stadium and wind through the paths behind the Northeast Family YMCA, through the Sportscore Two soccer fields, around the Indoor Sports Center, back through the tunnel, and back into Aviators Stadium for the final sprint down the third base sideline and across Home Plate with your image on the jumbotron. Walkers will also finish at home plate in the stadium.
Registration for runners and walkers will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will end at 8:30 a.m with both events beginning at 9:00 a.m. An awards ceremony for the 7K racers will follow at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to top male and female runners overall and in various age categories. There will also be team prizes awarded for teams of five or more runners.
The race will be Bib chip timed. Splits will be announced at each mile marker. Water and first aid stations will be available. Walkers will not be timed and will line up behind the runners and will start at the same time when the gun sounds. Please, no dogs, strollers, rollerblades, skateboards, or bicycles during the race.
Registration for individual runners prior to October 8, 2014 will cost $30. Runners who receive the Rockford RoadRunner discount will be able to register for $28. Cancer survivors will be able to register for $25. If you register after October 8, 2014, registration will be $35. Those wishing to participate in the 1.5 Mile Fun Walk will be able to register for just $15.
There will also be a Dreaming Tree set up for your to dedicate your race to someone special. Bring a copy of your special person's picture to hang on the Dreaming Tree the day of the race or wear a race bib to "Race in celebration of" or "Race in Memory of" a loved one. Dedication bibs will be available on race day.
If you choose to come for support and don't wish to participate in the race or walk, there is still a lot to do while you wait for your loved ones to cross the finish line. Be sure to check out Gammy's Silent Auction that will be set up at the stadium. Last year, there were over one hundred silent auction items ranging from sports memorabilia to dining and entertainment. This is where the real competition is, so don't forget to stop in and place your bids on the items.
