Every Game Counts As Battle For First Place And Potential Elimination Game Looms
October 26, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1) News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Tuesday, October 26, 2010 - The race for the two spots in the 2010 United Football League Championship Game is heating up, and more jockeying will take place in Week 7 with two key contests for four of the league's five teams.
On Thursday at 7 p.m. Central (8 p.m. Eastern), the top two teams in the UFL standings will go at it when the Las Vegas Locomotives (4-1) travel to Rosenblatt Stadium to take on the Omaha Nighthawks (3-1). This is a rematch of a Week 4 game at Sam Boyd Stadium, which the Locos won 22-10 after trailing 10-3.
HDNet will have the live broadcast of the game, with Kenny Rice (play-by-play), Paul Maguire (analyst), Ron Kruck and Paul Crane (sideline) bringing the action to a national audience beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. Central (7:30 p.m. Eastern).
On Saturday at 8 p.m. Pacific (11 p.m. Eastern), two teams fighting to stay in contention for spots in The Championship - the Sacramento Mountain Lions (2-3) and the Hartford Colonials (1-4) - will take to the field at Hornet Stadium. The clash is another rematch after the Colonials topped the Mountain Lions 27-10 in the 2010 season-opener at Rentschler Field, recording their only victory of the campaign to date. Quite simply, the Colonials need to win to stay alive in the race.
Join Craig Minervini (play-by-play), Doug Flutie (analyst), Ryan Nece and Damon Hack (sideline) for the live broadcast of Saturday's key contest on Versus.
The Florida Tuskers are in a tie for third place in the UFL at 2-3 going into their second bye week in three weeks.

EXPERIENCED HAND VERSUS A NEW ARM
Jeff Garcia is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in professional football right now, and on Thursday at Rosenblatt Stadium comes up against a young quarterback fresh off the back of making his first professional start.
In college, Drew Willy was the most prolific passer in Buffalo football history. As a four-year starter he set school records for completions (849), attempts (1,322), passing yards (8,748), touchdowns (52), total offense (8,639) and completion percentage (64.2). In the final 20 games of his college career, threw 36 touchdown passes to just six interceptions.
But in the pro ranks, Garcia and Willy are poles apart, as the statistics show.

OLD TEAMMATES AND RIVALS RESUME BATTLE
Mountain Lions quarterback DAUNTE CULPEPPER and Colonials signal caller JOSH McCOWN will be in opposition on Saturday when Hartford visits Sacramento. The pair has a history as teammates with the Oakland Raiders and also as opposing passers when McCown ended Culpepper's NFL playoff dreams back in 2003.
McCown's 2-13 Arizona Cardinals, with nothing to play for but pride, shocked Culpepper's 9-6 and seemingly post-season bound Minnesota Vikings with a game-winning touchdown pass on fourth and 5 as time expired.
"It was little thorn in my side, definitely, to lose a game like that, of that magnitude," admitted Culpepper, whose Vikings missed out on the playoffs. "Josh is a great competitor and I'm excited to be playing against him again."
At stake this time is a victory that if Culpepper succeeds in masterminding a revenge win over McCown, will eliminate the Colonials from the race for the UFL Championship Game.
