Everett Forces Extra Frames Only to Fall in 11th

August 28, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (18-14, 34-36) fell out of first place for the first time since August 8 by losing their fifth straight game to the Yakima Bears (17-15, 30-40) 6-5 in eleven innings, the Sox second extra-inning loss in the last week.

The Frogs battled back from a 5-0 deficit with five runs in the eighth inning on three RBI hits with two outs, but Bears second baseman Daniel Pulfer knocked in the game-winning run in the top of the eleventh on a triple that sailed over the head of Sox center-fielder Jarrett Burgess.

Everett was held to three hits in the first seven innings by Yakima starter Alex Capaul while the Yakima lineup jumped all over Sox starter Jordan Pries, who had career highs in both hits and runs allowed with nine and five respectively. The Bears totaled double digit hits for the third time in the series, which brings Yakima to a four game total of 52.

The Eugene Emeralds won their fifth consecutive game to move into sole possession of first place for the first time since August 7 and the Sox fall to four games behind Vancouver in overall record, which will decide the final playoff spot in the West if Eugene holds on to the division lead.

Everett will look to avoid the five game sweep as they send out left-hander Cameron Hobson (2-2, 1.95 ERA), who has not allowed a run in his last two starts, against Yakima left-hander John Pedrotty (2-3, 2.93 ERA) at 4:05 p.m.
