Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips tallied their second shutout of the season Friday night defeating the Portland Winter Hawks 3-0. Shayne Barrie made 22 saves to grab his first career WHL shutout and move his record to 7-6-2-0. Jesse Burt, Byron Froese and Graham Pouter had a goal each tonight to help lead the Silvertips to their 14th win this season. The Silvertips have now won 13 consecutive games against Portland with Everett's last loss against the Winter Hawks coming in at over a year ago on October 5th, 2007.
This brings the âTips record to 14-9-3-0 with 31 points in 26 games played standing five points behind second place Spokane Chiefs in the U.S. Division. The Silvertips are now 5-3-2-0 in their last 10 games. The Silvertips come back to the Comcast Arena on Saturday night November 29th for a 7:05 game against the Kootenay Ice.
It didn't take long for the Silvertips to get their first goal of the night. At the 3:16 mark of the first period Burt scored his second goal of the season after taking a Paul Van de Velde pass and going on the breakaway. Burt used a shoulder fake before beating Kurtis Mucha five-hole on the back hand giving Everett the early 1-0 lead. Everett continued to hold off Portland in the first 20 minutes outshooting the Winter Hawks 9-4 and taking a one goal lead into the second.
Everett would add to their lead at 10:17 of the second period when Froese scored his sixth goal of the season. Kellan Tochkin and Tyler Maxwell each had an assist on the goal after cycling the puck and feeding Froese who skated cross crease and beat Mucha on the back hand five-hole. Everett would end the period with a 2-0 lead outshooting Portland 18-12.
Everett tacked on some insurance in the third period as Pouter put home his fourth goal on the year. Pouter tossed a hard wrist shot from the blue line and beat Mucha clean top shelf at 9:19 of the third to make the score 3-0. Barrie continued to play solid in the third collecting 10 saves in the period and leading his team to victory.
The Silvertips come back to Comcast Arena on Saturday, November 29th at 7:05 pm to take on the Kootenay Ice.
