Dana Eveland tossed eight strong innings, but Norfolk was held to one run in a 3-1 setback to the Indianapolis Indians Wednesday night at Harbor Park.

Eveland (2-2) retired each of the final 14 men he faced, as he became the first Tides pitcher to complete eight innings this season. The only trouble he ran into came in the third inning, as he allowed an RBI double by Gorkys Hernandez and a run-scoring single by Matt Hague that gave the Tribe a 2-1 lead.

Eveland allowed six hits and a walk while striking out two as he lowered his ERA to 2.56 this year. He now has four of Norfolk's eight quality starts this season.

The Indians tacked on an insurance run off Oscar Villarreal in the 9th inning courtesy of an RBI double by Jeff Clement.

Bryan Morris turned in a strong effort in relief for Indianapolis, as he retired the first 10 batters he faced before Jai Miller reached on a one-out single in the ninth. After Matt Antonelli grounded out for the second out of the frame, Doug Slaten was brought in to face Xavier Avery. Avery worked a walk to put the tying run on first, but Slaten got Steve Tolleson to ground into a force out to end the threat and register his fourth save of the season.

Jamie Hoffmann provided Norfolk's lone offensive highlight with a solo homer off of Jo-Jo Reyes (4-0) in the first inning. The homer was the second of the season for Hoffmann, who has now reached base safely in 11 consecutive games.

Reyes scattered nine hits and two walks over five innings to pick up the win. He struck out five, throwing 57 of his 90 pitches for strikes.

Norfolk collected 10 hits in the contest but finished 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position en route to leaving 10 men on base. The Tides have now left 39 men on base over the last three games.

The two clubs continue their four-game set on Thursday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15. Right-hander Joel Pineiro will make his season debut for the Tides against southpaw Rudy Owens (1-0, 2.08).
