(GARY, INDIANA) - The Otters lost their first exhibition game of the season, 5-2 at the Gary South Shore RailCats on Wednesday afternoon.

Third baseman Steve Marino finished the contest with two RBIs in the defeat.

Evansville started the scoring in the top of the second inning against Gary starting pitcher Stephen Hiscock. First baseman Nick Schwaner led off the inning with a single, stole second, and scored two batters later on an RBI groundout from Marino.

The RailCats rallied back in the bottom of the second inning with the game-tying run on a single from shortstop Zac Mitchell.

With the even at 1, the Otters re-gained the lead in the third inning. Just like Schwaner in the second inning, outfielder Runey Davis reached first base with no one out. Marino brought home Davis a few batters later on a single to center field.

The Otters bullpen of Jason Ridenhour, Patrick Crider, and Coty Saranthus would maintain the one run lead into the seventh inning. The Railcats tied the game in that inning and scored three runs in the eighth inning for the win.
