Evansville Otters Add to Bullpen Depth with RHP Scott Weismann

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters continued to build their bullpen this weekend with the signing of RHP Scott Weismann.
Weismann is a former 18th round pick of the Detroit Tigers out of Acton-Boxboro (MA) High School . He continued his career collegiately at Clemson University where he helped guide the Tigers to the 2010 College World Series . Weismann defeated Oklahoma that year in Omaha, Nebraska and made a smooth bullpen transition the following year when he recorded seven saves.
After his junior season in 2011, Weismann was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and reached as high as the Tennessee Smokies (Class-AA) the very next year.
"Scott had an exciting climb in first pro season," said Otters manager Andy McCauley . "With his relief experience, he will be a late innings reliever for us and we are very glad to have him on the team."
Weismann is excited to join the Otters and also be reunited with his college catcher John Nester.
"I am very thankful for this opportunity," said Weismann. "Evansville has so much tradition and I am ready to come in and play for the Otters."
The Otters will be having an exhibition game that benefits Jacob's Village on Friday, May 10 against the Southern Illinois Miners . First pitch will be at 6:35 p.m. CDT at historic Bosse Field . Tickets are $4 for general admission or $6 for reserve seats. All ticket proceeds will go to local charity Jacob's Village. The Evansville Otters season starts on Friday, May 17 against the Normal CornBelters . The year will feature 51 home games including seven scheduled doubleheaders.
