Evansville Thunderbolts News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - It was a tough weekend for Evansville after losing to Macon Mayhem on Saturday (4-3) and Sunday (5-2). The wins for Macon moved them into the top spot in the SPHL standings, while the Thunderbolts continue to hunt for their first win.
Building off of Saturday's win, Macon started scoring early when Jake Trask scored at the 17:58 mark in the first period. But the Thunderbolts were primed to avenge Saturday's loss. Brad Bourke capitalized off a Macon penalty by scoring at 11:20 (assisted by Dan Vernace and Dave Williams). Six minutes later, Tommy Fiorentino (assisted by Mike Radisa and Frank Schumacher) shot one past macon netminder, Garrett Bartus, to put the Thunderbolts up 2-1.
From the start of the second frame to the end of the third, Macon regained and maintained control of the game. Vadim Guskov tied it up at 2-2, with Daniel Echeverri braking the tie at 13:55. Stephen Pierog extended the Mayhem's lead, 4-2, with just a little more than 8 minutes left to play in the second period. Nick Grasso notched the final goal of the game at the start of the third period to put Macon up 5-2.
