EVANSVILLE, IN: This Saturday night the Evansville BlueCats (1-2) will take on the Rock River Raptors (1-1) this Saturday night at the Rockford MetroCentre. This game marks the BlueCats first ever visit to take on the Raptors in Rockford, Illinois. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05pm. The game can be heard live on News-Talk 1280 WGBF-AM and on the web at www.103gbfrocks.com with the voice of the BlueCats, Jimmie Ford, on play-by-play.
Last Saturday night the BlueCats lost on the road 70-25 to the Lexington Horsemen. Defensive back/kick returner Richard Johnson earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the league for his performance against Lexington. Johnson returned a kickoff for 57 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. The 57-yard kickoff return is a new BlueCats team record. Running back Ray Kirkley led the BlueCats offense with 75 yards rushing and 18 receiving yards against the Horsemen, and currently leads the UIF with 184 rushing yards on the season. Wide receiver Levron Williams caught 4 passes for 20 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Rock River Raptors enjoyed a bye last week.
The BlueCats currently lead the league in rushing offense averaging more than 100 yards per game as a team. The BlueCats also lead the league with 3 kick return touchdowns so far this season and rank second in the category of fewest penalties. The Raptors currently lead the league in pass offense, passing efficiency, and turnover margin. The BlueCats and Raptors are currently tied for 4th place in total defense with both teams giving up an average of 199 yards per game.
