Evans Wins Scoring Title; on Matthews Wednesday

(Rochester, July 26)... Looking at the Major Series Lacrosse final point leaders this summer was like looking through a crystal ball and seeing the future for the Rochester Knighthawks. Four of the top five point producers in the league were from Rochester, which included projected No. 1 pick Cody Jamieson. Shawn Evans led his teammates, and the MSL, in points with 81 to capture the points championship. Evans was joined in the Top 5 by Craig Point (70), Scott Evans (64) and Jamieson (62). Shawn Evans will be on the Bob Matthews Show on Wednesday, July 28th at 6:45 p.m. on WHAM 1180-AM and wham1180.com.

Shawn Evans led the first-place Peterborough Lakersto a 14-2 record and chipped in a league-best 60 assists in 16 games. Point, who plays for Six Nations, recorded 70 points (26+44) in 15 contests, while his teammate Cody Jamieson registered 62 points (28+34) in 15 games. They were third and fifth, respectively, in the league in points. Scott Evans ended the season in fourth place in the MSL in points with 64 and led the league with 32 goals.

The majority of the Knighthawks play for the Peterborough Lakers with seven players dressing for the Lakers. Joining the Evans Brothers are Mac Allen, John Grant Jr., Kevin Fines, Kyle Laverty and Steve Toll. Toll led the MSL with 67 loose balls in 15 games. He also collected 26 points (7+11) for the Lakers. Allen had six points (2+4) and 23 loose balls in nine games, while Fines has one goal, three assists and 30 loose balls in 13 games. Grant chipped in with 30 points (15+15) in just six games. Additionally, Laverty contributed with 20 loose balls in 12 games.

Two other Knighthawks are playing in Major Series Lacrosse: Jake Henhawk and Andrew Potter. Potter finished second on the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks, and 16th in the MSL, with 41 points (12+29) in 13 games. Henhawk has played in five games and is 3-2 with a 9.37 goals-against average with Six Nations.
