
Etchebarren Collects 500th Career Win

Aberdeen, MD- Aberdeen starting pitcher Zach Jevne went seven strong innings and Joe Nowicki homered to give Aberdeen a 2-1 win and manager Andy Etchebarren his 500th career victory.
Jevne (3-2) won for the first time in his last three starts despite giving up just three runs over 21 innings in that time. On Tuesday he gave up a run on five hits in seven strong innings.
Joe Nowicki hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning. Nowicki-named the New York-Penn League Hitter of the Week earlier in the day-extended his season-high hitting streak to 13 games with the home run.
The win gave Aberdeen manager Andy Etchebarren his 500th career victory in his 11 year managerial career. Etchebarren has now won 88 games in his three year tenure in Aberdeen.
Anthony Martinez's groundout scored Matt Angle and gave Aberdeen a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Angle stole his 20th base of the season on the previous play to tie Jarod Rine's franchise record of 20 stolen bases in one season, set in 2003.
Tri-City scored its only run in the sixth when Matt Gamble singled to left to drive in Matt Cusick.
The ValleyCats nearly tied the game in the ninth but Aberdeen reliever Kyle Touchatt slammed the door with back-to-back strikeouts after a leadoff double.
Game Notes- Aberdeen tries for its second sweep of the season on "Women's Appreciation Night" on Wednesday...The IronBirds will use pink bats during the game, sign them and raffle them off after the game on Wednesday...The raffle proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation-Maryland chapter.
