Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have signed free agent import defensive lineman Shawn Lemon, the club announced today.
Lemon played his college football with the Akron Zips; he was an All-Mid American Conference performer as a senior and led the team with seven sacks and four fumble recoveries. A three year starter with Akron, Lemon was a teammate of Eskimos Corey Woods and Almondo Sewell. He spent time on the Saskatchewan Roughriders practice roster in 2011 and has also played in the AFL with the
San Jose Sabercats and the Orlando Predators in 2012.
Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "It's rare for a young man to play in a professional game without the benefit of a full practice with his new club, but that's exactly what Shawn will be doing on Friday night. Thursday is really nothing more than a light walk through session. Between Etienne Legare's illness and a few nicks up front, we are pretty thin in our defensive line. Since Shawn knows our game from his playing experience in Saskatchewan last year, combined with having a passport, he was an ideal addition on short notice; and, unconventional route or not, Shawn will be given a chance to impress as we're eager to see him compete."
