Danville Otterbots News Release

Kingsport, TN - The Kingsport Mets won 9-4 on Wednesday night, but ultimately, it was Danville's six errors that lost the game for the D-Braves. The Braves committed a season-high, six errors last night, four of which came in the second inning. All of the Mets runs in the inning were unearned and the Braves were unable to climb out of the early hole they got themselves in.

When the bottom of the second inning started the D-Braves had a 1-0 lead thanks to a Brandon Drury RBI groundout. But in the second, the game quickly unraveled. Julio Concepcion got on immediately due to Fernando De Los Santos's eighth error of the season. Two batters later, with two runners on, Jonathan Clark laid down a sacrifice bunt. Catcher, Chad Comer, fielded the bunt and threw it away allowing two runners to come all the way around to score. Jonathan Clark then ended up at third on the second error of the inning which was a throwing error on Sam Munson who had retrieved Comer's bad throw.

Jeffrey Glenn then singled to right field scoring Clark and gave the Mets a 3-1 lead. Later on in the inning, Dustin Lawley hit a sacrifice fly to left fielder Kenny Fleming who misplayed the ball and was charged with the D-Braves fourth error of the inning. The play scored two more and the Mets led 5-1.

The Braves got two of the runs back in the top of the sixth on a Kyle Kubitza double that followed a Nick Ahmed single. Then a Brandon Drury single scored Kubitza and the Mets deficit was cut to two.

Danville's top half of the eighth inning resulted in one more run and made it a one run ball game. But the Mets countered with four more in the bottom half of the inning.

With Daniel Lopez on the mound for Danville, Yucarybert De La Cruz and Juan Carlos Gamboa each singled to lead off the inning. Then Lopez committed the fifth error of the night on an attempted pick off attempt. His throwing error allowed each runner to move up a base. With the bases loaded and one out, Greg Pron's groundout resulted in two more runs and yet another error on the Danville defensive. Edison Sanchez's throwing error was the Braves sixth of the night.

The Mets knocked Daniel Lopez out of the game and Matt Suschak came in to replace him. Suschak walked the first batter he faced which ended up being the Mets ninth and final run of the night. He then got De La Cruz, who was batting for his second time in the inning, to fly out and end the defensive mess.

The Mets batted around twice in the game, once in the second and once in the eighth. David Filak was saddled with the loss. He pitched just two inning and gave up five runs on three hits, none of which were earned. Daniel Lopez was charged with the four earned runs that were scored in the eighth inning.

Domingo Tapia earned his fifth win of the year. He pitched six solid innings and gave up three runs on five hits and struck out six.

Danville's homestand begins Thursday, August 25 when they take on Johnson City and Bluefield three times a piece.
