
Erie native Mitchell to attend Pittsburgh Xplosion Free Agent Camp

PITTSBURGH, October 27, 2006 - Former Edinboro University standoutTorry Mitchell is expected to be among those chasing their professional basketball dreams when the Pittsburgh Xplosion hold their Free Agent Camp on October 30 at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. The Explosion will invite eight players from the Free Agent Camp to attend the team's Veteran's Training Camp, which opens on November 14. The Xplosion compete in the Continental Basketball Association.
Mitchell, a 5-10 point guard, began his basketball career at Mercyhurst College before transferring to Edinboro University after two years. Mitchell was the starting point guard for Edinboro the last two seasons and led the Fighting Scots to the national playoffs both years. The Erie native's best game as a Scot came during the first round of the PSAC playoffs in 2006, scoring 35 points while going 8-14 from beyond the arc.
The former Central High School standout averaged 14.3 points per game, second on the team, while leading the Fighting Scots with 129 assists his senior season. He was also the team's top three-point threat with 66 in 200 attempts. He earned All-PSAC West First Team honors for the 2005-2006 season.
The heady point guard, who guided Edinboro to 45 wins during his two seasons, helped Edinboro become the first team in school history and the first team in the PSAC since 1983 to win back-to-back PSAC championships. His leadership helped catapult Edinboro into the national polls in each of his final two seasons with the Scots.
The Club 4 Life, Pittsburgh's premier fitness destination, serves as the Xplosion's training and practice facility. The team opens its 2006-07 Continental Basketball Association season at Albany on December 1 and play its home opener versus the Indiana AlleyCats at Mellon Arena on Wednesday, December 6.
