Erie Edges Idaho at 2011 NBA D-League Showcase

January 11, 2011 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS, Jan. 11, 2011 - There's nothing private about Antoine Walker's Idaho. Ever since the former three-time NBA All-Star signed with the Idaho Stampede of the NBA D-League on Dec. 7, 2010, he's generated headlines throughout the basketball universe.

Thing is, when you subtract the degree of Walker's success in the NBA, which also includes an NBA Championship with the Miami Heat in 2006, what you have is another face in the crowd hoping to be recognized in the form of a Call-up.

It remains to be seen whether the 34-year-old Walker has enough gas in the tank to make it back to the big race, but his teammate Cedric Jackson could be on the fast track. A three-time GATORDADE Call-up in 2009-10 with Cleveland, San Antonio and Washington, Jackson was all over the place, finishing with 20 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals, but his team came up short, losing to the Erie BayHawks, 79-74.

Jackson has shown a tremendous amount of improvement since going undrafted out of Cleveland State in 2009, polishing his lead guard skills and improving as a shooter. He could find himself in the NBA in the very near future. Garrett Temple's future looked a lot brighter several months ago when he survived final cuts to make San Antonio's opening night roster. Unfortunately, he was waived on Nov. 11, 2010, and returned to the NBA D-League to begin the climb back. He finished with 13 points and four steals for the BayHawks (14-6).

"This is obviously a great venue to show your talent, but also to show what type of teammate you are, how you interact with players and coaches," said Temple, who appeared in 27 games last season with Houston, Sacramento and San Antonio after going undrafted in 2009 out of LSU. "For me, it's always important to be winning games. I was part of a great team last year in Rio Grande Valley, and our team this year is having a really great season so far."

Blake Ahearn led Erie with 16 points. Ivan Johnson added nine points and 13 rebounds. Erie's defense held Idaho to 36 percent shooting and forced 26 turnovers.

It was a rough night for Walker, who finished with seven points on 2-for-13 shooting to go with a game-high 10 turnovers.

Erie plays again tomorrow against Rio Grande Valley. Idaho (5-14) finishes up Thursday against Springfield.
