Erie, Pennsylvania, Friday, February 10- The Erie BayHawks put their tough California road trip behind them with a 117-110 victory over the visiting Maine Red Claws on Friday night. Erie (14-15) was able to hold off a strong charge at the end of the game from Maine (12-18) to preserve the victory.
The first quarter was a see-saw affair as the lead changed hands four times during the frame. After Maine rushed out to an early 6-0 lead, Erie charged back to take a four point advantage. By the end of the quarter, the Red Claws held a three point lead behind eight points from Philadelphia 76ers assignment player Craig Brackins.
The Red Claws held an advantage for the majority of the second quarter but Erie took a one point lead into the break. The BayHawks fortune changed in the third frame as Erie took a lead and never looked back behind 10 points from Kyle Goldcamp. Erie extended it's lead in the fourth quarter to a game high 16 points. Maine was able to cut the lead all the way down to one point with six minutes left in the game but Erie pushed back to gain a double digit lead with under a minute to go.
Erie was paced by Mike James (26 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds) and Tirrell Baines (22 points, 8 rebounds, and a season-high 5 assists). Goldcamp (18), D.J. Kennedy (17), Marvin Phillips (12) and Keith McLeod (11) also contributed with double-digit scoring nights for Erie. Maine was led by Brackins' 24 points and also had four other players tally double-digit point totals.
The BayHawks return to action tomorrow night, February 11, as they take the floor against the Dakota Wizards at 7:00 pm. This game is the first of Erie's Faith and Family nights, presented by River of Life Chiropractic and WCTL. Reigning Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne will also make an appearance and hold a meet and greet with fans following the game. The Red Claws return home to play Texas on Sunday at 5:00 pm.
