(Windsor) Spitfires forward Eric Wellwood is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the team's coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, April 26th. Wellwood scored two goals for the Spitfires in two games played last week, leading Windsor to a four games to one series victory over the London Knights and the Rogers OHL Western Conference Championship.

On Monday, Wellwood had one goal in Windsor's game four, 5-4 overtime victory against the Knights. Two nights later, he scored the series winning goal midway through overtime, as the Spitfires defeated the Knights 4-3 to win the Rogers OHL Western Conference Championship.

Wellwood, a 19 year-old from Oldcastle, Ontario native is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. In 15 playoff games, he has 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points, including three game winning goals as well as a plus-14 plus/minus rating which is tied for second in the OHL. During the regular season, he was tied for second in the OHL with five short handed goals. Overall, he scored 16 goals and added 18 assists for 34 points and posted a plus-27 plus/minus rating in 61 games played.

The Windsor Spitfires will host the first game of the Rogers OHL Championship Series against the Brampton Battalion this Wednesday at the WFCU Centre.
