Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
The Edinburg Coyotes of United League Baseball (ULB) announced today that second baseman Eric Gonzalez will be returning to play for the upcoming 2008 season. This will mark his third year with the Coyotes since United League Baseball's inaugural year in 2006. The La Feria Texas native first began his Independent Baseball career in 2001 in which he led the Edinburg Roadrunners to the Texas-Louisiana League Championship under field manager Chad Tredway. He went on to play for the Roadrunners for four straight seasons as the third baseman. In 2006, he led the Edinburg Coyotes to the United League Championship after posting up 68 runs with 53 RBIs during the regular season. Since his professional debut, Gonzalez has racked in a career total of 518 hits, 252 RBIs and 40 home runs. "It feels great coming back to play for the Coyotes," the eight-year veteran said. "Playing here makes me feel good. All the fans that come out to the games make it that much special for me to be here." Gonzalez brings a wealth of experience to the team that will help groom some of the younger players for the upcoming 2008 season. His proven leadership on and off the field will be a valuable asset to help pioneer the franchise back to the United League Championship. "Eric is an essential part of this team," field manager Vince Moore said. "His background and playoff experience alone gives him a great quality that some of these younger players can feed off from. Having him back will be great for the team as well as the community."
