Lancaster JetHawks News Release
VISALIA, CA - After two days of postponements, the JetHawks split a doubleheader against the Visalia Rawhide on a hot Friday evening at Rawhide Ballpark in Visalia. Chris Epps hit a grand slam in game two to lead Lancaster to a 13-3 victory.
After falling behind 2-0 after the first inning, the JetHawks took advantage of an error and Andrew Chafin's lack of control to score six runs in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth.
After Ben Orloff led off the inning with a walk, shortstop Mike Freeman butchered a potential double play ball off the bat of Alex Todd. George Springer followed with an infield single, Erik Castro walked with the bases loaded and Domingo Santana drove in two runs with a double.
Lancaster added three runs later in the inning on a Ben Heath RBI-groundout and Enrique Hernandez two-run single.
In the fourth inning the JetHawks loaded the bases again and Santana drew a bases loaded walk to set the stage for Epps' grand slam.
Carlos Quevedo (1-0) picked up the victory in relief of Zach Grimmett. Quevedo tossed three scoreless innings and has yet to allow a run in the Cal League over six total innings.
In game one, the Rawhide scored in five of six innings to beat the JetHawks, 7-2.
Nick Tropeano (1-1) suffered his first loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings.
The JetHawks scored both their runs in the seventh inning when Hernandez and Rene Garcia both picked up runs with base hits.
The Rawhide got a run on a home run from Garrett Weber and got big games from Ender Inciarte and Gerson Montilla at the top of the order. Each hitter picked up two hits, an RBI and combined to score three runs.
