Enforcers Wear Down Wolves, 7-4
The Elmira Enforcers came back to First Arena with vengeance on their mind as they had a matchup set with the third place Watertown Wolves. A matchup that had gone the Enforcers way most of the season, but the previous matchup saw the Enforcers lose in a shootout as the Wolves narrowly got by Elmira 5-4 the night before.
The first period saw a similar start to the night before as Nathan Pelligra got the scoring started just past the halfway point. However, the Wolves weren't going to sit back as they scored twice before the end of the first with Lane King and Tyler Gjurich tallying late to give the Wolves the lead heading into the locker room.
Elmira got refreshed during the intermission and came out strong as Anton Lennartsson scored early and often he first tallied on a power play and then 1:21 later as he stood in front of the net and deflected an Ondrej Misovic shot. After another power play for the Enforcers Yianni Liarakos broke out of the penalty box and was able to shove one by Troy Passingham to bring the Wolves back even. However, Lennartsson would waste no time putting the Enforcers back on top and cashing in on his hat trick. Gavin Yates would not be outdone by his former Wolves teammate as he added a shorthanded goal and a power play goal before the end of the second period to give the Enforcers a three goal lead heading towards the third period.
Blake Scott came in to change things up in the net while Watertown's leading scorer Gjurich scored just 2:40 into the third, but that was as close as the Wolves would get. Mitch Atkins buried a dagger at 15:14 and sent the Enforcers fans home happy with a 7-4 victory.
Passingham stopped 26 out of 30 shots for the win as the Enforcers gained another three points against their closest ranked opponent.
The Enforcers will battle the Wolves one final time on First Arena ice during the regular season tomorrow at 4:05 followed by a Skate with the Enforcers! Get your tickets now by calling 607-734-PUCK!
