Elmira Enforcers News Release
Your Elmira Enforcers were back in action tonight at the First Arena for a 7:05pm puck drop against the Danbury Hat Tricks. Fans may have noticed the lineup card was a little different tonight with four Enforcers out with various injuries, and one missing due to personal reasons. Taking their place in tonight's game was Head Coach, Brent Clarke, who played in two games last week and mustered up 4 goals and 3 assists including a hat trick against the Battle Creek Rumble Bees, and the owner, Robbie Nichols, who amassed 176 goals, 192 assists, and 2,145 penalty minutes in his 12-year professional playing career.
The Danbury Hat Tricks were the first team to crack the scoreboard here tonight at the First Arena as a great front of the net presence allowed Casper Dyrssen the chance to catch the Enforcers net-minder Troy Passingham just out of position, and put Danbury up 1-0. Just about six minutes later Elmira tied the game at 1 with Kyle Stevens flipping a beautiful pass to Dustin Skinner who took advantage of the breakaway opportunity and sent a snipe of a wrist shot past Thomas McGuckin. The Skinner goal seemed to light a fire under that Enforcers lineup as the power-play continues to heat up as well, with their first power-play opportunity leading to a Glen Patterson goal after a scrap for the puck in front of the net, giving them the 2-1 lead which they carried into the locker room at the end of the first 20 minutes. Despite trailing on the scoreboard, Danbury would lead in the shot column, 14-11.
The second period of action here at the Arena was definitely an interesting one to say the least. Danbury took advantage of their opportunities very early on, with their first goal of the period coming just 30 seconds in as Phil Bronner was able to control the pass from defensemen Martin Tuma and tie the game at 2 with his 9th goal of the season. Just 25 seconds later Danbury found the back of the net once again as Gordy Bonnel fired a slapshot that found its way between Enforcers goaltender Troy Passingham's legs to give them the 3-2 advantage. Although they may have come out flat in the beginning of the period, that Enforcers power-play that we have talked so much about got another opportunity to strike, and they didn't miss that opportunity as Dustin Skinner found the back of the net for his second goal of the night, making Elmira 2/2 on the power-play through the first 40 minutes, and once again tying our score back up at 3 a piece.
Third period action didn't disappoint tonight as the Enforcers left it all on the ice. Scoring first in the period was Danbury, though, as Phil Bronner was able to find the back of the net for the second time on the night and give the Hat Tricks a 4-3 lead. Despite trailing after an early goal in the period, the Enforcers once again took advantage of a power-play opportunity as Glen Patterson collected another puck in front of the net and buried it to make them 3/3 on the night and tie our score at 4 a piece. After quite a bit of pushing and shoving and a ton of no calls on the night, it was Danbury who got the final laugh as Vladyslav Gavrik tipped a shot from Phil Bonner past Passingham to give them a 5-4 lead which they were able to hold onto that lead until time expired.
Despite their best efforts, Elmira would drop tonight's game with a final score of 5-4, giving Danbury the win in the season series between these two teams. The Enforcers will be back in action tomorrow night as they travel to take on the Danbury Hat Tricks once again, but this time on Danbury's home ice.
