San Angelo Saints News Release
San AngeloâThe San Angelo Saints are excited to announce the return of powerhouse Konrad Brand to the 2004/2005 roster. The 6'4" 245 lb. defenseman brings a physical presence to the ice that may not be "Saintly," but will definitely be noticed.
"We're excited to have him back," says Saints Head Coach and Assistant GM Ray Edwards. "He has the size and strength we need and can create space on the ice for his teammates. Konrad could certainly become one of the toughest and most dominant players in the league if he chooses to do so."
A native of Cold Lake, Alberta, Brand returns for his third season with the San Angelo Saints after first signing in 2002. In his first season with the Saints, Brand appeared in 39 games and notched 2 goals, 6 assists and 36 penalty minutes. In 2003/2004, he helped the Saints to a division title by scoring 2 goals and 10 assists. Brand finished the season as one of the team leaders in penalty minutes with 115 minutes served in his 52 appearances.
Brand began his hockey career with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. He was selected by the Los Angeles Kings as the round nine, number 220 overall 1997 NHL draft entry. He then spent four years with the Medicine Hat Tigers, also of the WHL. During his time with the Tigers, Brand notched 32 points (7 goals, 25 assists) and 403 penalty minutes. "He has the kind of toughness we're looking for," says Assistant Coach Derek Booth. "Konrad brings in good size and strength. We will look to him to be a leader on the ice and in the locker room."
Brand comes as the fourth to re-sign for the upcoming 2004/2005 season. He joins goaltender Scott Reid, center Andy Doktorchik and forward Scott Lega.
