Energy FC wrapped up a successful 2019 preseason by defeating USL Championship expansion club El Paso Locomotive FC, 2-1, on Saturday in Tucson, Ariz. Goals from Cordell Cato, his first for the club, and Deshorn Brown, his seventh of the preseason, gave the Greens their fifth win in seven matches. During that time, the team scored 16 goals and allowed only four.
OKC faced USL Championship competition on three occasions during the trip, with the highlight coming on February 23, as Energy FC defeated the defending Western Conference Champions, Phoenix Rising FC, 2-0. Brown and Omar Gordon were the scorers in a resounding victory.
The Greens were handed their first loss of the preseason on February 27, after expansion club New Mexico United came away with a 2-1 win. Christian Eissele was the scorer for OKC on the day.
Energy FC begin the USL Championship season away to El Paso Locomotive on March 9, and the home opener is March 16 at Taft Stadium against Las Vegas Lights FC. That fixture last season proved to be one of the best of the 2018 USL season, as OKC defeated Las Vegas 6-4 in a match that was nationally televised on ESPNews.
