Tri-City Dust Devils News Release

The Tri-City Dust Devils pitching staff had been at its best against the Eugene Emeralds in the prior two games, tonight was an exception. The Emeralds put together 13 hits on their way to a 9-6 pounding of the Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium. The game was the third of a five game series; Eugene has taken two of the three.

The game got off to a bad start for Tri-City as Eugene got on the board in the first inning. Dean Anna singled on a ground ball to left field to start the game. Anna advanced to second on a single by Vincent Belnome. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch by starter Rob Scahill and Edinson Rincon doubled to score both runners and make the game 2-0.

Scahill struggled through three innings as Eugene was able to produce five runs off of seven hits. Josh Hungerman allowed one run off of one hit in relief of Scahill. Carlos Luna pitched two innings for the Dust Devils and allowed no runs. Eric Federico relieved in the seventh and eighth innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Rhett Ballard finished the game for the Dust Devils and allowed one run and one hit in the final inning.

The Dust Devils hurt themselves at the plate by not capitalizing with runners on base. Tri-City was 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight batters on base. The Dust Devils were unable to take advantage of all four Eugene errors in the game; Tri-City committed none. Ben Paulsen had another solid night at the plate going 2-5 with two runs on the night. Orlando Sandoval went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Alex Feinberg scored two runners for the Dust Devils.

Tri-City never looked to have a solid chance at a come back, especially after falling short in the seventh inning. Ben Paulsen and Orlando Sandoval both scored runners to make the game 6-5, but Austin Rauch was unable to drive Sandoval in and popped up for the third out and left his fourth batter on base.
