AMARILLO, Texas - Elmore Sports Group, ownership of the Amarillo Sod Poodles, has been named the 2018 Organization of the Year by Ballpark Digest in their annual awards.
Ballpark Digest selected the Elmore Sports Group for this award due to the collective success of the seven teams it owns as well as guiding three different franchise shifts.
"It's very rewarding, and it's inspirational," said Elmore Sports Group chairman Dave Elmore. "I'm thrilled, and I know the whole organization will be as well. I look at all of our teams and I feel that that [community outreach] is one of the best things we do and, me personally, that is what I take the most joy out of. It's terribly important to me to see what they add to their communities, and we've been blessed- we've been in most of our communities now for 23 years or so, some of them for more than 30, and you just begin to become like family."
The Elmore Sports Group owns seven Minor League Baseball teams and one hockey team. The Elmore's run the San Antonio Missions (Triple-A), Amarillo Sod Poodles (Double-A), Inland Empire 66ers (Advanced-A), Lynchburg Hillcats (Advanced-A), Eugene Emeralds (Class-A Short Season), Idaho Falls Chukars (Short Season Rookie Level), and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Class-A Short Season) in Minor League Baseball as well as the East Coast Hockey League's Utah Grizzlies.
"Being named Organization of the Year by Ballpark Digest is one of the greatest honors in baseball," said Elmore Sports Group President D.G. Elmore. "The Elmore family is blessed to work with the best leaders in minor league baseball and to partner with baseball-loving communities throughout the country."
"I've been fortunate enough to work for the Elmore's for over 23-years," said Tony Ensor, Amarillo Sod Poodles President and General Manager. "The Elmore's provided amazing leadership and guidance to all their teams by making our first focus each day geared towards family and community involvement. This has always been the key to each of their team's success."
The Elmore Sports Group has overseen the transition of three franchises heading into the 2019 season. The Missions are making the jump from the Double-A Texas League to Triple-A Pacific Coast League, while the Colorado Springs Sky Sox are leaving the PCL to replace the Helena Brewers in the Pioneer League, and the Sod Poodles are joining the Texas League.
The Amarillo Sod Poodles inaugural home opener is set to take place on Monday, April 8, 2019, against the Midland RockHounds, Double-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.
Season seats, group hospitality, and corporate partnership options are now available for the inaugural 2019 season. Individual ticket sales, game times and promotions will be announced at a later date. For more information call 806-803-7762 or visit SodPoodles.com.
