December 31, 2020 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Elmira Enforcers News Release
The Elmira Enforcers of the Federal Prospects Hockey League are pleased to announce they have made a one for three trade with the Columbus River Dragons as they acquire Forward Mitch Atkins, Defenseman Taylor Cutting, and Defenseman Yegor Kostiukov in exchange for Defenseman Cameron Yarwood.
Atkins, a 26 year old forward from Kitchner, ONT, returns for his second stint with the Elmira Enforcers. Mitch tallied 50 points in his inaugural season with the Enforcers after being a standout at Elmira College where he played for three seasons. Atkins brings a strong presence to the center ice position, but is also a fan favorite from his time in Elmira both collegiately and professionally. Mitch has always been a strong advocate for hockey in the area and will bring a positive attitude to the locker room this season.
Cutting, a 26 year old defenseman from Royersford,PA, spent last season with the Delaware Thunder before being acquired in the dispersal draft by Columbus. Last year was Taylor's second season in the league and the second season he had over 175 penalty minutes. Cutting is an imposing force on the ice and brings grit and toughness to an Enforcers locker room that may be looking for more of an edge.
Kostiukov, a 23 year old defenseman from Tver, RUS, spent time with Watertown, Delaware and Columbus last season as well as a 16 game stint in the SPHL with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Yegor was a large part of the defensive core that led Watertown to the postseason two years ago and played a tough brand of hockey against Elmira where he racked up 14 penalty minutes in just two games. Kostiukov has the ability to read the game makes him an asset to the Enforcers blue line.
Enforcers owner Robbie Nichols told media members "It is not easy to give up a player like Cameron Yarwood, but with the season laid out ahead of us we are looking for the right pieces to build a championship team. Coach Mahfouz and I have talked about it and we wanted to get tougher and add more offense. We believe this trade does that and we cannot thank Cam enough for what he has done here in Elmira. Columbus is getting a really good player and an even better person."
Yarwood played 97 games with Elmira with 23 goals and 52 assists in the regular season as well as adding 2 assists in the Enforcers playoff run in their inaugural season. Cameron was always happy to be out in the community and played a big part in creating the positive impression in the community of Elmira.
The Enforcers plan to have a full schedule once again as the team will be entering their third season in the FPHL. The Enforcers will open the season on February 4th and 5th at home against their instate rival the Watertown Wolves. Further dates and attendance policies will be released in the coming weeks.
