Elks Sweep Double Header
July 7, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
Game 1
In a 2 game Double Header between the Elks and the Apple Sox Saturday, the Elks took game 1 courtesy of a 1st inning unearned run that stood up as the only run the Elks would need, beating the Apple Sox 1-0.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, Darian Ramage reached base on an error by Wenatchee shortstop Cabe Reiten, and Will Sparks would follow with a 2 out RBI single to plate the only run of the game.
J.R. Bunda got the start and pitched masterfully for the Elks, picking up his 3rd win of the season. JR pitched 6 and 1/3 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits while striking out two. Jordan Spencer came on and pitched the final 2/3 of an inning for the save.
Game 2
The Bend Elks were the road team in Game 2 of the series, but that didn't stop them from hitting the baseball, as they drove in 11 runs on 15 hits in taking down the AppleSox in Game 2 of the Double Header 11-2.
Will Sparks was the hero offensively for the Elks as he went 6 for 7 combined in the two games, scoring 3 runs and driving in 5 helping key the Elks to both victories. Zane Yanzick and Darian Ramage also had multi-hit games for the Elks, who are now on a 3 game winning streak and are winners of 5 of their last 6.
It was a combined pitching effort for the Elks to get the job done in Game 2 as Travis Radke pitched 4 and 2/3 quality innings, surrendering no runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. David Birosak came on in relief to get the win, surrendering two unearned runs on 3 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. Trevor HIldenberger came on in relief of Birosak to close the door.
