Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Bellingham: Mikey Murray (Hawaii Pacific) had an outstanding outing on the mound for the Cowlitz Black Bears, allowing only one run in six innings as the Black Bears beat the red-hot Bellingham Bells 5-1 Friday evening.

The Black Bears got on the board with three runs in the fourth, the first scoring on a Tyler Madrid (Santa Ana) sacrifice fly. Cody Childs (Mt. Hood) got an RBI on a bases-loaded walk and Ben Swinford (Cornell) scored on a Bellingham error. In the preceding inning, Murray extricated himself from a bases loaded, no out jam.

Swinford brought in the last two runs with an RBI double in the fifth inning and a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Brian McAfee (Cornell), Kevin Sprague (UC Riverside), and Cole Irvin (Oregon) combined to shut Bellingham out over the last three innings, with Irvin recording the final two outs. The Black Bears are now 12-14 in league play.

The Black Bears next home game is Tuesday, July 10 against the Walla Walla Sweets. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday, featuring $2 GA tickets, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda, and $2 beer.
