Bend Elks News Release
After taking Thursday off, the Bend Elks look rejuvenated Friday night, playing some of their best baseball of the year in defeating the Wenatchee AppleSox 3-0 at Vince Genna Stadium.
The pitching was lead by Cornell University freshman Brent Jones, who pitched 5 innings of no hit baseball, while walking one and striking out 2. Wenatchee didn't manage a hit until there were two outs in the 7th inning when Taylor Sparks delivered a single off of Derek Peterson to prevent a staff no hitter.
The Elks got on the board early in the game as Darian Ramage, who would score all three of the Elks runs, came around to score on a groundball from Elks third baseman Tommy Pluschkell that was mishandled by Wenatchee shortstop Cade Reiten, giving the Elks an early 1-0 lead.
The Elks would go on to score 2 more runs due in large part to Will Sparks, who delivered an RBI single in the 3rd inning to score Ramage and a Sac Fly to score Darian in the 7th, giving the Elks their final 3-0 margin of victory.
Jordan Spencer pitched a scoreless 9th for the save, his 2nd of the season.
The Elks play 2 games against the Wenatchee AppleSox Saturday beginning at 5:05 p.m. Both games will be 7 inning contests.
