Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks fell to the Medford Rogues 8-2 Saturday night in a game that included one Elk player and two coaches coaches being tossed after a controversial call in 4th inning. The controversy began in the top of the 4th when Grant Newton reached first on an error, then Brock Carpenter walked allowing Billy King to lay down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd . While Medford starting pitcher Jeff Hardy appeared to be tying his shoe off the mound, Carpenter was leading off second. Then Rogue second baseman Joe Chavez tagged Carpenter out with a ball hidden in his glove while the pitcher was still off the mound. No umpires called the runner out until well after the Rogue coaches argued the non-call, that was then called sending Coach Marty Hunter to arguing that call, he was then tossed. In the bottom of the 4th Elk starting pitcher Patrick McGuff hit the first two Medford batters he faced, leading to a warning. Then with the bases loaded, McGuff hit another Rogue and was tossed as both benches and bullpens charged the field, however no punches were thrown. Third base coach Arron Matthews then began to argue with the home plate umpire and was quickly thrown out of the game. The Elks managed to score a single run in the 5th and the 7th. Patrick McGuff (1-2) took the loss for the Elks. The Elks and Rogues are now tied for second place in the South Division, one game behind the Corvallis Knights .The Elks return to the friendly confines of Vince Genna on Monday night to face the Klamath Falls Gems for a three game series against their South Division rivals.First pitch is at 6:35 PM.
